With specially designed dinners, concierges and super plush beds for fido, many a stylish slumber spot are now vying to make their pet-friendly stay a paw ahead of the pack. Luckily, our pet-friendly guru, Rigby, is on hand to sniff out the best of the best (it’s a hard life!), and has rounded up his favourite dog-friendly country house hotels, where your pup will be welcomed with open arms and life’s little luxuries are more than in abundance for humans too.

1. Cliveden House, Berkshire

Having played a starring role in the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding day, this sublime estate with many a royal connection is a must try for any discerning paws. First built in 1666, this stately home is steeped in colourful history, full of intrigue and glamour; the antique furnishings and period features will transport you back to centuries past. As you approach the majestic frontage with fido in tow, the sound of the tyres on the gravel drawing your attention, make sure to take your time as you make your grand approach to the house. Just 30 miles from Central London, the peaceful estate of Cliveden House is also one of the pack leaders when it comes to dog-friendly. It’s a very special spot indeed for you and fido to both take the time to relax and indulge.

Insiders tip: dine with fido in The Astor Grill after exploring the surrounding dog-friendly National Trust grounds.

2. Foxhill Manor, The Cotswolds

To the manor born, or so fido will feel, at this luxurious private house hotel, nestled in a sublime country estate. The Grade-II listed Arts and Crafts country house, refreshed and revitalised for the 21st century, may well be the home you dream of. Supremely stylish, with understated elegance in abundance, 400 acres of woodland estate and your personal host, you and your pooch may never want to leave Foxhill Manor.

Insiders tip: treat your pup and order their din-dins from the chef’s specially created doggy menu, or invite their paw friends and hire the house!

3. Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Oxfordshire

With gastronomy at its heart and a restaurant that has held two Michelin stars for over 30 years, this magnificent country house hotel is the brain child of Raymond Blanc. Sumptuous and elegant, Le Manoir is one stay you will not forget. Your and your pooch’s every whim will be catered for by the quietly attentive staff, and every room is exquisitely, uniquely and meticulously themed around Raymond Blanc’s lifetime influences.

Insiders tip: opt for the Citronnelle suite, for its breezy, uplifting décor and wonderful private terrace to enjoy with your dog.

4. Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire

This dog-friendly hotel is a place to escape where all the family can relax, revive and indulge in country pursuits. With the Four Seasons Hamphire’s resident dog, Mr Oliver Beckington, on hand and a warm welcome waiting, your pup will be in their element at this country estate. There will be a tail wagging in no time, with sniffs galore to be had around the rolling countryside and lakes.

Insiders tip: order a picnic and head out to enjoy the parkland with fido.

5. The Manor House, Wiltshire

Leave behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life and retreat with fido to the medieval Wiltshire village of Castle Combe. At the heart of this 15th century village, you will find The Manor House hotel. On the edge of the dog-friendly Cotswolds, this dog-friendly countryside delight has 365 acres of parkland, perfect for humans and hounds to explore together. With its ample period features pleasingly embraced, you will unwind, as your dog enjoys their very own Creature Comforts goodie bag.

Insiders tip: try The Castle Inn with fido. The estate’s very own pub, located just beyond the hotel gate, is a delight and provides cosy home comforts from morning coffee through to sumptuous suppers.

Now for the hard part, where to try first! Decisions decisions…
