Wander around the Nurseries’ gorgeous plants and peruse the antiques and gifts galore; perfect for working up an appetite – and an appetite is a must here! No trip would be complete without sampling one of the gastronomic delights in either Petersham Nurseries Café (café by name, but restaurant by nature) or The Teahouse.
Dine in the casual yet refined restaurant, set within a beautiful glasshouse building. Bougainvillea and jasmine are all around, and antique furnishings work to great effect. The foodie heritage from the previous Michelin stared chefs at Petersham Nurseries Café continues, with exceptional offerings based on English culinary work, influenced by the team’s love of Italian flavours. Menus change regularly but include dishes such as saffron gnocchi with mussels, peas and flowers, and grilled leg of lamb with globe artichokes, Marinda tomatoes, chilli and chart. Set menus are sometimes available and start from £55.
Bookings are taken for the restaurant; we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
For more every day but still sumptuous fare, try The Teahouse. Seasonal food, homemade cakes and pastries are served here, along with loose leaf teas. An Italianate menu is on offer at lunch, including dishes such as marinated artichoke salad with pea and pea shoots and garden herbs, or Petersham sausage with borlotti beans, tomatoes and oregano.
Dogs can explore throughout here, with the only out of bounds area being the serving section in The Teahouse. Make sure you carve out the time to explore this hidden, nature-filled gem together.
In the summer months you can also dine alfresco in the restaurant, while The Teahouse enables you to eat outdoors all year round.
The Nurseries are normally closed in the evenings, but supper clubs are held on a handful of days throughout the year, with seasonal menus served amid the flowers and twinkling lights.
Private events can be hosted in Petersham Nurseries Café, The Teahouse, or you can hire the whole venue should you wish.
