The cosiest of Rick Stein’s dog-friendly slumber spots in Padstow, what Rick Stein’s Café lacks in size, it makes up for in character and charm. Less quintessentially Cornish than its sister venues, there is more of a laid-back European feel here. With three welcoming dog-friendly rooms to choose from, and the harbourfront a few short sniffs away, you and fido will relax, unwind, and feel right at home.

Facilities

At Rick Stein’s Café

With a homely feel throughout, this smart bed and breakfast is a little bit different to the rest of the Rick Stein family. Feature fireplaces and antique furnishings provide the character, while the white-washed walls and wrought iron bed frames add a modern touch. There is also a relaxing courtyard for you to both enjoy if the weather allows. Dog-friendly rooms include fresh crisp linens, powerful showers, flat screen TVs, iPod docks, wifi and Molton Brown toiletries.

Pawfect slumbers

There are three dog-friendly rooms to choose from at this perfectly petite sleep spot.

There are two snug rooms available, where cosy surrounds include use of fluffy bathrobes, as well as access to Origin Coffee, Birchall Tea and Stein’s biscuits – the perfect way to rise in the morning. There is also one cosy room; slightly more spacious, this features a beautiful four poster bed and original fireplace.

Doggy amenities include a dog bowl and take-home fleece blanket.

Human and hound abound

Get ready for plenty of exploring on foot; the harbour is less than five minutes’ walk away, and there is a sandy beach not much further. Bring your walking shoes, and a towel or drying coat for fido, especially if he’s partial to an enthusiastic paddle! A local dog walking guide is also available at the hotel.

The extra bits

Book one of their ‘Dog’s Life’ packages, and you’ll also receive some Green & Wilds organic dog treats on arrival, and a dog bowl to take home. Ask about their rates when submitting your enquiry.

Dog-sitting is bookable through the hotel if you need someone to keep an eye on your pooch while you dine at St Petroc’s Bistro or The Seafood Restaurant nearby.

Food and Drink

Hotel restaurants

Rick Stein’s Café offers table service from dawn through to dusk. Start the day with some smoked salmon and scrambled eggs (both residents and non-residents are welcome for breakfast) before moving on to some of Rick’s more classic dishes for lunch or dinner. There is plenty of fish on offer, with a dash of Asian inspiration; the cod curry mixes both perfectly.

Hotel bar

If it’s a drink with fido you’re after, a two minute stroll will take you to Ruby’s Bar – dog-friendly throughout, they have an excellent selection of gins as well as plenty of craft beers and fine wines.

At your service

Room service is not currently available at Rick Stein’s Café.

The extra bits

Dogs are not allowed in the main dining area, but you can eat with fido in the courtyard if the weather allows. If eating inside, book a dog sitter to keep an eye on fido. Residents are given priority when making restaurant bookings.

If you and your pooch are keen to dine together, there are a number of dog-friendly options nearby, including Mediterranean-inspired St Petroc’s Bistro, friendly gastropub The Cornish Arms and seaside fish and chip shop Rick Stein Fistral.

  • Breakfast: 8am to 10.30am
  • Coffee and cake: 10.30am to noon
  • Lunch: noon to 3pm
  • Dinner: 6pm to 9.30pm
  • Dress code: Cornish casuals to match the B&B vibe

Where We Are

LOCAL AREA

Rick Stein loves Padstow for its “strong sense of identity” – this working fishing port has deep roots and feels alive all year round, not just during the summer months, when seaside and sunshine lovers descend on the county.

A trip to Padstow wouldn’t be complete without a walk along the bustling yet picturesque harbourfront, where you and your dog can keep an eye out for the fishermen’s latest catch. If fido is partial to a swim, the nearest beach is less than 10 minutes’ walk from the town centre, or if you pooch fancies himself as a bit of an old sea dog, take the short jaunt across the estuary from Padstow to charming Rock on the Black Tor ferry.

There are an abundance of dog-friendly activities for you and your four-legged friend to enjoy together in North Cornwall. Please see our guide to dog-friendly North Cornwall.
