Hidden away on a sleepy street in medieval Burford, The Bay Tree hotel is charming through and through, with plenty of dog-friendly areas where you and your pooch can relax together. Dine with your dog in the Woolsack Bar, let fido sniff out the walled garden, or take a nap in your characterful country room. Whatever your paw choice, this Oxfordshire venue is a perfect place to unwind.

At The Bay Tree

Expect a plethora of eye catching artwork featuring man’s best friend by Katharine Lightfoot and roaring fires at this wysteria-covered, flagstone-floored country inn. Dog-friendly rooms include homely furnishings, WiFi and Molton Brown products.

Pawfect slumbers

The are six delightfully welcoming and uniquely decorated dog-friendly rooms available at The Bay Tree hotel, all with outside access.

Pet-friendly rooms start with Good Garden Rooms. Fresh and light, these doubles have French doors on to a Juliet balcony overlooking the hotel’s gardens. If you would like a separate seating area, try the Very Good Garden Rooms, which also come complete with balcony and garden view.

An Excellent Room is also on offer with our four-legged friends. This spacious room comes complete with antique furniture, lounge area and Nespresso machine.

Should you be after a place to hunker down with fido, try the Tanfield Room which along with its lounge area and flagstone flooring has a king sized bed and open log fire to warm your paws by.

Human and hound abound

Bring your walking shoes. Maps of local walks are available from reception, with the countryside a mere leap and a bound away.

The extra bits

There is a large walled garden to relax in, where dogs are welcome to explore on leads.

Extra beds for children and cots are available on request; a small charge may apply.

Hotel restaurant

The Bay Tree Restaurant oozes contemporary country chic, with artwork of hounds adoring the walls and views of the walled garden making this a place to relax and revive. Local ingredients are celebrated to deliver seasonal, British cooking, while the staff are on hand to pair your dishes with a wine selected from the restaurant’s wine wall.

Hotel bar

While your pup can’t join you in The Bay Tree Restaurant, they are more than welcome to snuggle up at your feet in The Woolsack Bar, with cosy decor reminiscent of a country pub. Drinks, light bites, platters and hot boards, as well as an afternoon tea menu, will keep your tastebuds satisfied as you relax with fido.

The extra bits

Dogs are also welcome in the inviting lounge areas, a perfect place to hunker down with afternoon tea during the winter months next to the roaring fires. If you’re there in warmer climbs, adjourn with fido to the delightful gardens for tea and cake.

Sister venue The Lamb Inn, right next door, has a doggy menu available in their bar, so make your way over to give your pooch a real treat.

Where We Are


The picture perfect town of Burford is a delightful place to unwind with fido. With ambling countryside all around, there is more than enough to keep you entertained for a weekend break, or use the hotel as a base to explore the wider Cotswolds. Half an hour away by car is Woodstock, a charming old world town, with some excellent dog-friendly pubs and at the heart of it, Blenheim Palace, where dogs are welcomed in the surrounding parkland.

For younger visitors, the Cotswolds Wildlife Park is only 3 miles away, and fido can accompany you on a lead through many of the attractions.

Hit the road

Drivers from the South West or East are in luck as the M4 or M40 both provide easy gateways to Burford, with the journey time from the capital one hour and 40 minutes on a good run.

The hotel has a car park for guest use.

9 miles away, Charlbury is the nearest mainline station. Arrange a dog-friendly taxi to take you for the last leg in advance.
