With its colourful and chic interior, fantastic facilities for family members big and small (and furry), and spectacular sea views, Bedruthan is one of the UK’s stand out choices for a family break with fido. Relaxed, warm and welcoming, and overlooking the stunning dog-friendly Mawgan Porth beach, the Cornish pace of life is evident throughout. It won’t take you long to settle in, drift off and forget about the hustle and bustle of family life back home. The hotel has been designed with families in mind, but with sensational food, world-class spa facilities, and plenty of adults-only hiding spots, it’s a break for grown ups, pooches and little ones alike.

At Bedruthan

Modern, spacious and a little bit quirky, the hotel’s ‘Scandinavian meets Cornish’ design makes it stand out, while still offering all the practicalities you need for a family holiday by the beach. Dog-friendly rooms include Cornish-made sustainable toiletries, a flat-screen digital TV and DVD player, tea and coffee making facilities, in-room cool box and WiFi.

Pawfect slumbers

There are three delightful room categories to choose from with fido. These start with Double or Twin Rooms which, although without sea views, are spacious with contemporary Scandinavian charm. These rooms can be made to be interconnecting.

Sea View Family rooms boast floor to ceiling windows – perfect for gazing out at the turquoise waters and watching the local surfers do their thing. A partial room divider between a king-sized double and two children’s beds makes you feel like you’ve got that little bit more space.

To add a little more luxury and direct access to sniff in the sea air, pick a Sea View Villa. A bath and seating area add an extra bit of escapism, along with patio doors leading onto a small terrace, and then onto open grass. Layouts vary, with either a separate bunk room, or a foldaway door separating the bunks from the large king-sized bed area.

A bed, bowl and treats will greet your dog when he arrives.

Human and hound abound

You and fido can fully embrace the dog-friendly, Cornish lifestyle at Bedruthan; there’ll be many an opportunity to sniff out a Cornish flower, or chase a surfer or two, as you explore the coastal path and all year round dog-friendly beach, both just a 10 minute walk away. If you’re visiting in the winter months, don’t forget to pack a windbreaker for you, and fido’s Barbour jacket too!

Relax and revive

If R&R is your aim, you’ll need more than a couple of days to make the most of everything on offer. With a view of the ocean below, an afternoon at the indoor thermal spa will have you walking on air; the lavender caldarium is the perfect place to start, before you ease tired muscles in the sea-view hydropool and enjoy the heat in the cedar wood sauna. Relax after your visit in the Lanai Spa Lounge.

The spa is open from 10am to 9pm, with treatments from 10am to 6pm (some massages are also able to be enjoyed in your room). Spa therapies, inspired by nature, use organic skincare from Ila. Don’t miss the Sensory Spa Garden, an hour-long experience with seven stages designed to detoxify and renew your body.

The indoor pool is open from 8am to 7pm, with the first and last hours of the day both adults only. There are two outdoor pools to enjoy – a shallower children’s pool, and a larger, deeper pool with loungers, surrounded by the greenery of the hotel’s gardens. The small but perfectly formed gym is open from 8am to 8pm.

The extra bits

If you’re in the mood to hunker down with a good book, fido can join you in the mezzanine lounge, the Tranquility Space and the terrace.

The hotel has a strong reputation for its arts offering and has its own craft studio. During the summer months, theatre performances take place on the sea view lawn.

Bedruthan is wonderful for new parents heading off for that first holiday with both fido and the little one. Some rates include hire of baby backpacks, all terrain pushchairs and sterilisers, as well as a complimentary night of babysitting.

All parents rejoice – any booking now includes 2 hours of free childcare for each day of your stay! Games rooms, indoor jungle tumble soft play, a tennis court, football pitch and outdoor play areas are available all year round, as are in-room baby listening devices (which can be used for fido too!). During school holidays, over 8s can attend Z-Club free for 6 hours during the day (at weekends at other times), with a paid-for evening club for over 5s. The entertainment programme changes regularly but look out for arts and crafts activities and circus skills.

*5 dogs are allowed to stay in the hotel at any one time, although the hotel regrets that no dogs on the UK dangerous dog list are able to stay.

Food and Drink

Hotel Restaurants

The Wild Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and boasts stunning ocean views on two sides. The menu is simple and contemporary; the focus is on local, seasonal produce, with dishes inspired by expert Cornish growers, farmers and fishermen. Coffee, cakes and Cornish cream tea are served during the day.

The Herring makes for a more intimate dining experience, with a seasonal menu that changes daily. Ask for a window seat when you book and you can watch the sun set over the Atlantic while you dine.

Hotel Bar

The Bedruthan Bar team aim to create a drinks menu that rivals what the hotel’s chefs are rustling up in the kitchen. The cocktails aren’t just an accompaniment – they’re an experience in themselves. With syrups, cordials and most of the liqueurs, infusions, tonics, tinctures & bitters created in house using seasonal, local produce, expect something a little bit different. During the day there are freshly made cakes, Origin coffee, soft drinks, beers and ales from Skinner brewery in Truro on offer.

Where We Are

Relish the beautiful, sandy, Mawgan Porth beach. It’s dog-friendly all year round, and right on your doorstep – perfect for walkies anytime.

Most of the beaches in the area are also dog-friendly with no seasonal ban. Nearby Crantock beach is also a favourite spot amongst local dog-walkers. Just south of Newquay, why not combine with a spot of lunch at Rick Stein’s Fistral.

The coastal path running along North Cornwall also passes through this bay, so it’s hard to get lost as you set off to explore the scenery beyond the bay.

Away from the beach, North Cornwall has an abundance of dog-friendly activities for you and fido to enjoy together. For inspiration see our dog-friendly Cornwall destination page.
