Set back from the main harbourfront, on a quiet and quaint side street, St Petroc’s Hotel is a haven of seaside serenity in the dog-friendly town of Padstow, North Cornwall. Feel yourself relax and unwind as you and fido enter this welcoming Rick Stein venue; the smart, bright interior boasts neutral hues throughout, adding that touch of luxury and coastal elegance. Dogs are in for a pawfect welcome too – all paws receive a smart, red fleece blanket, branded ‘Chalky’s pals’ after Rick’s famous late Jack Russell. Fido can even take his blanket home, so you’ll still be dreaming of distant shores well after you leave.

At St Petroc’s Hotel

With rooms expertly designed by Jill Stein, winding staircases and cosy fireplaces combine with light wood panelling and touches of teal to create a coastal chic feel. Dog-friendly rooms include powerful showers, crisp white linen and towels, fluffy bathrobes, freeview TV, WiFi, Molton Brown toiletries and seaside touches.

Pawfect slumbers

You and fido can take your pick from three of the four room types on offer. Cosy rooms are the smallest, but features such as exposed brick and bright colour accents make them a treat. Origin Coffee, Birchall Tea and Stein’s biscuits will welcome you when you rise in the morning. Comfy rooms offer the same amenities, but allow a little more space for you and your dog.

To really enhance your stay, we recommend opting for a Generous room. These rooms have access to private parking nearby, and many have freestanding baths as well as separate seating areas.

A dog bowl and take-home fleece blanket will be provided for your four-legged friend.

Human and hound abound

With a harbour to explore, and a sandy beach just ten minutes from the hotel, bring your walking shoes and a towel or drying coat for fido. If he’s anything like Rigby, All Four Paws’ spaniel muse, he will get wet! A local dog walking guide is also available at the hotel.

Relax and revive

The quiet Cornish life will have you well on your way to relaxation all on its own. After a day at the harbour, why not take a pause with fido in the lounge, grab a book from the well-stocked bookcase, and reflect on the day’s adventures.

The extra bits

Book one of their ‘Dog’s Life’ packages, and you’ll also receive some Green & Wilds organic dog treats on arrival, and a dog bowl to take home. Ask about their rates when submitting your enquiry.

There are plenty of dog-friendly spaces for you and fido you enjoy together throughout the hotel, including the bar areas, the lounge and the pretty courtyard.

Dog-sitting is bookable through the hotel if you need someone to keep an eye on your pooch while you dine in the main bistro or at The Seafood Restaurant nearby.

Food and Drink

Hotel restaurant

St Petroc’s Bistro offers an extensive selection of steaks (including a 28 day aged Chateaubriand), as well as dishes inspired by the Mediterranean. Enjoy the varied menu in either the main restaurant area, or the cosy snug bar if your dog is joining you. If the weather is on your side, the courtyard garden is the perfect place for you and your pooch to wind down as you discuss the events of the day with fellow humans, as well as a dog or two.

Hotel bar

Drinks are served in the bar, lounge or in the courtyard throughout the day, and fido is welcome in all three.

At the back of the hotel, but with a second entrance on the street, Ruby’s Bar is fully dog-friendly, with a eclectic selection of gins the stars of the show. Rick and Jill’s favourite wines, spirits, lagers and beers are also on offer, so you will always find something that tickles your fancy. There is more information on Ruby’s Bar on our Play pages.

At your service

Room service is not available, but a continental breakfast can be served in your room if you prefer to take your coffee and croissant in your fluffy bathrobe.

The extra bits

Fido can’t join you in the main restaurant area of St Petroc’s Bistro, so book a space in the bar so you can dine together. You can also enjoy the full restaurant menu in the garden if the Cornwall forecast permits.

  • Breakfast: 7.45am to 10am
  • Lunch: noon to 3pm daily
  • Dinner: 6pm to 9.30pm
  • Ruby's Bar: Wednesday to Friday 5pm to 11pm, Saturday and Sunday noon to 11pm
  • Dress code: Casual but chic after your day at the beach

Where We Are

Rick Stein loves Padstow for its “strong sense of identity” – this working fishing port has deep roots and feels alive all year round, not just during the summer months, when seaside and sunshine lovers descend on the county.

A trip to Padstow wouldn’t be complete without a walk along the bustling yet picturesque harbourfront, where you and fido can keep an eye out for the fishermen’s latest catch. If fido is partial to a swim, the nearest beach is a 15 minute walk from the town centre, or if you fancy a bit of a trip on the high seas, take the 10 minute jaunt together from Padstow to charming Rock on the Black Tor ferry.

North Cornwall has an abundance of dog-friendly activities for you and your four-legged friend to enjoy together. Please see our guide to dog-friendly North Cornwall. For inspiration see our dog-friendly Cornwall destination page.

Hit the road

From the North, come off the A39 at the junction for the A389 and follow your SatNav around the beautiful Cornish countryside as you head towards the coast. If coming from the South, why not exit the main road just south of Newquay and enjoy the picturesque journey along the coastal road. Some rooms include free parking on site, but if this isn’t part of your package, there is pay and display parking available a short walk away. If you’re staying for longer in the summer, there is a park & ride in operation.

All aboard

Newquay and Bodmin Parkway, your closest stations, are both around 30 minutes away by road. Book a taxi in advance for the final leg of your journey to make sure they can accommodate a dog or two.
