At The Rubens at the Palace

Classically styled, opulent reds and golds and dark wood features dominate the furnishings here, ensuring a truly regal welcome at every turn. Dog-friendly rooms include WiFi, interactive TV with movies-on-demand, a music library, handmade mattresses, elegant furnishings and personal, thoughtful touches.

Pawfect slumbers

Dogs have the pick of the bunch at The Rubens at the Palace.

Flying solo? Classic Single rooms include day beds or a single bed, with luxury toiletries, and either a walk-in shower or bath tub. Small doubles offer a snug, yet luxurious stay and would be preferred by smaller canine guests. Classic doubles offer slightly more space, while Royal Mews View Doubles add the view. Some doubles offer baths for some R&R after a day exploring the city’s sights.

For a little more luxury, opt for a King. Three King room types are available, with the Executive King the most spacious of the three, boasting a comfortable seating area. For the next level up, opt for a Royal room, with each room regally-themed in honour of British monarchs of the past. All rooms feature striking crystal chandeliers, and some have elegant canopies over the beds.

For optimal space and elegance, opt for a Suite. With four levels of suite available to discerning dogs and their human companions, from Junior Suites to the Master Suite, you’ll both delight in added luxuries including complementary daily canapés, luxury Penhalligon toiletries, Nespresso machines, and space for additional guests. For longer stays, there are also two apartments available.

Fill in your pet-preference form before you arrive, and fido should prepare to be treated like a king at The Rubens. On arrival, he’ll find a welcome hamper complete with dog bed, bowl, treats, personalised do-not-disturb card, and a doggy menu ready and waiting.

Human and hound abound

Get exploring! This city is made for walking, and with the Royal Parks just across the road, your dog will be itching to explore the acres of play-space on your doorstep. Maps and route recommendations are available from the concierge.

Relax and revive

If it’s pampering you require, masseurs and beauty therapists are available – be sure to book in advance.

Be active

Guests have access to the H2 gym in Victoria, including classes, which can be booked up to a week in advance. For something a little different, the hotel managers are on hand as ‘sports buddies’ should you fancy a game of tennis or spot of horse riding with a companion.

The extra bits

Your four-legged friend can expect to receive a welcome letter with information on special pet services available from the Ruben’s Pet Concierge. Dog-sitting and dog-walking are available, and extravagant extras such as in-room dog-grooming and birthday parties can be arranged should you wish.

Cats are just as welcome as dogs are, and there is a cat menu available too, so your favourite feline will be well and truly pampered.

If travelling with children, the ‘Director of Fun’ will ensure a fabulous stay is had by all.

Food and Drink

Hotel restaurants

Recently refurbished, The English Grill is fido-friendly and the culinary heart of the hotel. Expect opulent grandeur, polished silver and tailcoat waiters as you enjoy a traditional English feast. There is a daily pie and daily roast always available.

For a slightly more relaxed setting, opt to dine at the South-African themed bbar & restaurant, adjacent to the hotel. Mixing safari chic and colonial cool, the menu includes intriguing dishes such as Springbok fillet and grilled Boerewors sausages. Classic burgers and more traditional plates are also on offer, with over 50 wines by the glass, and an extensive cocktail list, alongside. If the weather is on your side, there is a terrace to enjoy too.

Hotel bars

The Cavalry Bar, at the rear of the hotel, is a relaxing and welcoming meeting place after a day on the town. Cocktails are mixed with meticulous attention to detail, there is live jazz every day, and a light bar menu is also on offer here.

The luxurious red decor and striking furnishings continue into the Palace Lounge. Sink into your decadent surrounds as you enjoy afternoon tea with views of the Royal Mews.

If bubbles are your thing, the Leopard Champagne Bar is a must. More intimate than the hotel’s other spaces, the decor is themed as its name would suggest. Expect up to 30 champagnes by the glass to tempt your tastebuds as you toast a royally wonderful stay.

At your service

Room service is available 24 hours a day.
