Set back from the main harbourfront, on a quiet and quaint side street, St Petroc’s is a haven of seaside serenity in the dog-friendly town of Padstow, North Cornwall. Feel yourself relax and unwind as you and fido enter this welcoming Rick Stein venue; the smart, bright interior boasts neutral hues throughout, adding that touch of luxury and coastal elegance. While you can’t dine in the main restaurant with your dog, you don’t have to miss out on the delectable Mediterranean delights on offer at the bistro here – grab a spot in the bar, or in the courtyard in warmer climes, and tuck into some classic Rich Stein fare.

Bookings are taken in the bar, but not in the lounge or courtyard.

Food and Drink

At St. Petroc’s Bistro

Housed in St Petroc’s Hotel, the wining and dining areas here each offer a slightly different take on quintessentially Cornish life. The cosy snug bar has a handful of bookable tables where you can relax within the white-washed walls, and exchange beachside tales with a local human and hound or two. For a laid back drink, hunker down in the lounge area over a coffee or a cocktail. In the summer months, the perfectly petite courtyard is also a delightful dog-friendly spot to dine.

The Big Green Egg grill is the star of the show at St Petroc’s; the main menu offers an extensive selection of steaks (including a 28 day aged Chateaubriand, with a bone marrow gravy as a tempting sauce option), as well as dishes inspired by the Mediterranean. It wouldn’t be a Rick Stein establishment without some seafood on show; opt for some local Porthilly oysters while you peruse the menu, or if the steak doesn’t take your fancy, enjoy some seared scallops with confit shallot and crushed peas, or choose the whole grilled plaice with roasted red peppers, chilli, garlic and oregano.

Doggy delights

With a harbour to explore, and a sandy beach just fifteen minutes from the hotel, your pooch will be begging you to hurry up and finish your steak so you can both head out for some Cornish seaside adventures.

By day

A set lunch menu is available every day with 2 courses for £15 or 3 courses for £20.

From dusk

Dinner is served until 9.30pm daily. If an early night isn’t on the cards for you or fido, head over to adjoining Ruby’s Bar.

At the back of the hotel, but with a second entrance on the street, Ruby’s Bar is fully dog-friendly, with a eclectic selection of gins the stars of the show. Rick and Jill’s favourite wines, spirits, lagers and beers are also on offer, so you will always find something that tickles your fancy.

The extra bits

There are only a few tables in the bar area so if you’re keen to enjoy a meal there at St Petroc’s, we recommend booking a table in advance (the main restaurant area is not dog-friendly).

A children’s menu is available.

  • Cuisine: Mediterranean grill
  • Lunch: noon to 3pm daily
  • Dinner: 6pm to 9.30pm daily
  • Book a table in the bar, or mosey down early and beat the other pooches to a courtyard pew

Where We Are

Rick Stein loves Padstow for its “strong sense of identity” – this working fishing port has deep roots and feels alive all year round, not just during the summer months, when seaside and sunshine lovers descend on the county.

A trip to Padstow wouldn’t be complete without a walk along the bustling yet picturesque harbourfront, where you and fido can keep an eye out for the fishermen’s latest catch. If fido is partial to a swim, the nearest beach is around 15 minutes’ walk from the town centre, or if you fancy a bit of a trip on the high seas, take the 10 minute jaunt together from Padstow to charming Rock on the Black Tor ferry.

North Cornwall has an abundance of dog-friendly activities for you and your four-legged friend to enjoy together. Please see our guide to dog-friendly North Cornwall. For inspiration see our dog-friendly Cornwall destination page.

Address: St Petroc’s Bistro, New Street, Padstow, PL28 8EA

Hit the road

From the North, come off the A39 at the junction for the A389 and follow your SatNav around the beautiful Cornish countryside as you head towards the coast. If coming from the South, why not exit the main road just south of Newquay and enjoy the picturesque journey along the coastal road. There is pay and display parking available a short walk away.

All aboard

Newquay and Bodmin Parkway, your closest stations, are both around 30 minutes away by taxi, so we’d recommend jumping in the car.

This is a very fine restaurant, serving exquisite food in characterful surroundings and your dog is more than welcome in the bar, which serves the same menu. It’s location in the centre of wonderful Padstow makes it even more special.
