Previously a string of mill cottages, the building’s history creates a wonderfully cosy feel as you and fido navigate the nooks and crannies to find your perfect spot for a quiet lunch or a tempting afternoon tea. Dine in the bar, or drift off by the fire in a comfy armchair, as you admire the doggy artwork from Katharine Lightfoot.
The a la carte menu is served all day and features plenty of pub classics, including local beer battered fish and chips, and a braised lamb shank with mash and seasonal vegetables. Three cuts of 31 day aged steak will certainly keep hungry humans happy if this is your paw-stop of choice after a long country walk. Keep an eye on the specials board for daily delights, and you may want to save some room for dessert – sweet favourites abound on the menu, including a chocolate tart with passionfruit ice cream, and Eton mess with berry sorbet.
Your pooch will thank you for taking a pause here. A bowl and treats will greet your dog on arrival, and there are a number of specially-made stews which can be ordered from the doggy menu.
For a lighter option, a sandwich menu is available throughout the day, including classics such as smoked salmon with a chive and black pepper crème fraîche, and mature cheddar and pickle.
Afternoon tea is served daily – opt for a freshly brewed tea with a toasted teacake, or the full works with a glass of bubbly on the side.
Food is served until 9.30pm, with the bar open for drinks until 11pm.
The charming English country garden is wonderful in sunny weather – dine here with fido while you catch a few rays.
A children’s menu is available to satisfy younger visitors.
