An endearingly homely spot at the front of The Broadway Hotel, situated in the charming Cotswolds village of the same name, The Jockey Bar embraces its nearby racing roots. With animal-touches throughout – including striking stag-emblazoned wallpaper and Katharine Lightfoot’s famous doggy artwork – cosy surrounds blend perfectly with hearty European fare. Fido will delight in hunkering down with you by the fire, or spending a hour or two catching some rays on the terrace in the warmer months.
Reservations are not taken, so just mosey down and pick a seat.
Very much a home-away-from-home, the bar blends historic features (with exposed beams still on show) with contemporary design. Cosy armchairs and darker accents are the perfect complement to the warming home comforts found on the classically European menu, alongside a sprinkling of fusion from global cuisines.
Food is served all day here, with the a la carte menu available from noon. Start by tucking in to delights such as sticky sesame glazed pork belly bites with apple purée, or a confit chicken and roast vegetable terrine. For hungry humans, try one of the 31 day dry-aged Devonshire steaks, or a lighter pan-fried seabass with lemon and parsley-crushed potatoes. Sharing platters and hand-made burgers will also tempt you.
With plenty of nooks and crannies to explore, your pup will love having a snooze at your feet while you dine in the bar, or on the picturesque terrace. Local walking maps are available at reception so you can both get out and explore the rolling hills and grassy meadows beyond.
There’s an excellent sandwich menu on offer from noon to 6pm. Try the barbecue chipotle chicken with peppadew peppers and guacamole, or fish and chips ‘in a bun’ – the plaice goujons with homemade tartare sauce on focaccia.
Afternoon tea is served daily – or opt for a coffee and cake if you’re in the mood for a lighter treat.
The bar stays open until 11pm if it’s a late night tipple you’re after. Be sure to try something a little different from the enticing cocktail list.
Are bubbles your thing? Prosecco is on offer for £15 a bottle from 3pm to 10pm every Friday and Sunday.
A separate children’s menu is available.
You’ll find a selection of craft ales at the bar. If you can’t decide which one takes your fancy, order a Broadway Beer Paddle and try four quarter pints for just £4.
There are 5 delightful dog-friendly rooms on offer at The Broadway Hotel should you and your dog wish to stay a little longer.
The charming and quintessentially-Cotswolds village of Broadway is not to be missed, and The Jockey Bar is at its heart. Take a gander before or after you dine, and mingle with the locals (of both human and hound variety alike). For more energetic pooches, combine with a walk to spectacular Broadway Tower, the Cotswolds’ highest castle, around 40 minutes’ walk away.
Keen on even more countryside adventures? Just a short drive away are the famous Cotswolds towns of Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh.
